Losing internet connection during large downloads, need help! | Tom's Hardware Forum

Dec 09,  · If you have an unreliable Internet connection, you might want to use a Download Manager to download large files. These will permit you to resume a failed download so that you don't have to start all over again. Microsoft has one, although I don't know if it will work on Windows Jun 27,  · In my case my internet worked for a while, then trying to open a page or do a search would take a really long time or fail, cycling the wifi connection instantly fixes the connection and it becomes responsive again. I have lots of systems, Windows, Mac, Linux, this only happens on the Mac's and it's not any obvious network setting. active oldest votes. 1. If you are downloading large files like this on a connection that isn't reliable you're best bet is probably to use a command line tool like curl. Open a Terminal window, change directory to wherever you want to download the file (for example cd ~/Desktop to save to your desktop).

Macs, like any computer, are vulnerable to losing their Wi-Fi connections. A good place to start when looking at Wi-Fi problems on your Mac is to diagnose exactly what the issue is. You can follow the wizard here for some basic pointers, but the really useful function is the Performance Graph, which you access by click Window at the top of your screen then Performance.

This will open a graph showing the transmission rate, signal quality and noise level on your Wi-Fi network. Transmission rate and signal quality tend to be connected. The worse the signal, the worse the transmission rate. You can improve your signal by making sure that your Mac is positioned closer to your router. If your noise levels are high or spiking, you can try finding a better Wi-Fi channel or logging into your router settings through your browser and changing from the 2.

With a bit of luck, it should stop disconnecting upon Sleep Wake from now on. Why does this happen? Certain USB devices emit wireless signals that can interfere with the Wi-Fi, while devices like USB hubs have been known to outright disable the Wi-Fi port sort of like how plugging in an ethernet internet connection drops when downloading large files mac automatically disables Wi-Fi.

So unplug all your devices, then observe whether your Wi-Fi returns after removing a particular one. Of course, start by restarting your Mac to see if this resolves the issues. These are the portions of your Mac that control basic operations critical for basic system function.

Press and hold the power button on your Mac to completely shut it off. Hard discs and fans need to stop spinning, and the screen needs to go dark. This process will vary heavily depending on whether or not your Mac is a desktop or laptop and if it has a removable battery or not.

Apple covers this process quite heavily. DNS stands for Domain Name Server, which essentially changes web addresses that we are able to read e. Type 8. Are some pages loading just fine and others failing completely?

This could have to do with the amount of packets that are able to be transmitted. We can adjust the value so that certain sites are able to load. DHCP is a protocol for arranging IP addresses, and changing that can make sure traffic is being directed accordingly.

Now after all of that tech jargon, here is how to do it. Hopefully one of these steps were able to get you online. If not, drop a comment below and let us know.

I have been absolutely in love with my mini MAC until this. Any other ideas? I had the problem too, internet connection drops when downloading large files mac, and i think that has to do with that i have two wifi spots in my house and the macbook keeps searching for this other wifi-airport. Is there no solution if my wi-fi loss problem is related to a USB-C connection?

I lose it either way, internet connection drops when downloading large files mac. With this new eSATA adapter in the mix, wi-fi connection to my home network modem is lost around 5 seconds after plugging in both adapters.

The two adapters connected together must emit some signal that blocks my connection. Is it static electricity? Maybe if I rub them both down with a fabric softener sheet it might help? I tried wrapping my eSATA adapter and its cable connections in aluminum foil.

That appears to have worked! My wi-fi signal stopped dropping out. No more problems. Weird, wild stuff. Another solution that works is moving my problem connection to a right side port on my laptop. It does! I hope this helps anyone experiencing wi-fi problems. I think my MacBook Air is finally not having connectivity issues.

Thank you so much!!! Does a lot of you have problems with the wifi connectivity on your macbook pro ? Debating whether to buy a different laptop rather than this one…. I started having problems with my iMac about 2 months ago, both wireless and wired ethernet. Essentially I would drop connection on average about every half hour and require me to renew the DHCP lease in the network setup page.

I checked everything hardware-wise cables provider, etc. I tried some of the recommendations in this article as well. Nothing helped and I was very frustrated. I never thought I needed one for the Mac, internet connection drops when downloading large files mac, but I guess times have changed, and virus, trojans, ransomware, and other threats are becoming more prevalent on the Mac platform.

Anywayafter some research, I decided to buy BitDefender and after a complete system scan, it found over 20 threats. Since their removal, last week I have not experienced any connection issues. Well done Mike as I very much appreciate your sharing these insights and cures. Sites like these remind me of the golden era of the Web, when peopled shared more and complained less. All the best and gain, thank you, Eric. I am stuck at renewing DHCP lease. I have done all of the things you recommended.

Thank internet connection drops when downloading large files mac for giving me some direction with this! I think it might be better, but not sure. The wifi works for loading a few pages, then quits error message that I am not connected to the Internet. Restarting the computer always did get it to come back on.

That is still the case. The problem started right after I updated my OS on recommendation by the updater. So, several factors could have internet connection drops when downloading large files mac the cause.

Because I suspected the OS might not have installed properly, I reinstalled it. I am running Mojave Switching to a different network sometimes gets me connected again.

Sometimes not. Ditto for renewing the DHCP lease, internet connection drops when downloading large files mac. Closing the lid on the computer and then coming back after a few hours always starts off with no wifi connection.

I have rebooted my router several times. Every device was able to connect to my Access point, all but my Macbook Pro. At first, I thought it was my wifi card connection which has been a oriblem beforeinternet connection drops when downloading large files mac, nothing.

Then, I tried to follow the first step. So, I decided to reboot the Access point. Instantly connects without issues…. True, my Mac cannot hold a WiFi connection, but that is only at home.

At school, it works just fine. Also at home, when my Mac tries to connect, it disconnects all other devices from the WIFI and sometimes even those with ethernet connections stop working. I have a MacBook air from running Each time I change network, my MacBook will keep Wifi connection, but will not be able to access Internet. I need to reboot to make it work again. Any clues? Now after I have gone through and made all of these changes it never connects.

How can I set everything back to what it was? I reversed the ones I could but some of them I have no idea what the information was or how to get it.

Hi Nothing worked! My MacBook air is cutting the recieved wifi signal from the router by half and more. It must be just near by to be surfing with pleasure. But all other connected devices are just fine!

Hi There, my issue is a little different: after the updates I can still conect, but only from very close range. As soon as I take a couple of steps back the wi fi drops before I could go in the whole hose. You've decided to leave a comment.

If you have reset your router, found that other devices are connecting to it, and your Mac is still refusing to go online, then it’s pretty certain that the issue stems from the Mac itself. This article will cover adjusting packet size, resetting the PRAM and SMC, reconfiguring the DNS, changing location, and deleting and re-adding the WiFi configuration. May 08,  · Some isp, like mine, will cut you speeds when downloading medium or larger files. Mine cuts by more than half. It will start at Mbps than drop after about 45 seconds to Mbps.
